This tea is way outside the normal scope of what we offer. Wang Yanxin is guest-curating a limited collection of pu’er from her personal reserve, and has selected this Mengku Te Ji shu pu’er for its elegantly classic profile, and clean sweet quality. Mengku is one of the biggest pu’er workshops in the world, and we generally work to highlight the unrecognized talent and quality of smaller workshops and cooperatives. However, while the 2006 Mengku Gong Ting is easy to find, the more nuanced Te Ji is particularly hard to track down, and Wang Yanxin firmly believes that the profile represents a classical ideal that is worth sharing. Mengku, for better or worse, sets the standards for the whole industry. The flavor profiles they share end up setting the trends across China. The Te Ji is a chance to see the clean and balanced Mengku shu pu’er style in its best light, and better understand what small producers like the Dongsa Cooperative or even Xingyang have to respond to in their own craft.

  • 'Most pu’er does become more complex over time. Astringency mellows out, darker and richer flavors come through. Textural complexities become more pronounced. Starting with an intriguing young pu’er of high quality with lots of textures and flavors at play will increase your chances of graceful aging.'
