This exquisite and evocative pot by nationally-recognized master potter Tang Xianwu captures the dynamic spirit of bamboo and shows off her particular fame for elaborate faceting work.

The name "han gong qiu yue gu zheng" roughly describes a “longing” for the autumn moon shining over the imperial palace. Looking at the way that Tang Xianwu’s faceting gives the sense of striving upwards, it evokes a fast growing bamboo grove, swaying, and reach up to the night sky.

While bamboo as inspiration for teapots goes back as far as Yixing itself, grounded in the use of bamboo implements in the scholars studio. Tang Xianwu captures in her bamboo, a personality, and indeed, a sense of longing. 

The whole scene is heightened by the use of a rare original deposit Chen Pi clay, allowed to settle out in the trough so that textural elements and mottling remain, with a luster ready to reflect the moonlight.

Tang Xian Wu has gained steady fame and accolades over the years, winning awards at every competition, so we are excited to still be able to offer her work due to a long working relationship.
