This dramatic deep dark masterpiece from Tang Xianwu is achieved through a unique process of pre-firing the natural original excavated duan ni mineral deposits before the clay is crushed, blended and aged in troughs. The effect is a natural clay with an inexplicably dark color - not exactly black, but the color of night or of deep ocean.

This mysterious effect is amplified by the austere but bold application of gold in contrast to the clay.
