CNNP is one of the biggest pu’er factories out there. In some ways, they set the national standard for pu’er, because whatever they blend ends up dominating the whole industry as a comparison point for smaller workshops. This cake has been aged by Wang Yanxin for almost fifteen years, and at $28 it is a deal, if only to compare the “classic” cozy shu pu’er flavor profile popularized by the big workshops to some of the more wild styles being developed by smaller younger pioneers. This pre pu’er market collapse CNNP pressing is clean and well balanced, a window into a different age before smaller producers and farmers had the means to start their own brand and challenge the “mainstream.”

'Most pu’er does become more complex over time. Astringency mellows out, darker and richer flavors come through. Textural complexities become more pronounced. Starting with an intriguing young pu’er of high quality with lots of textures and flavors at play will increase your chances of graceful aging.'
