It has gained the most fame in Wuyishan finished as a dark roast strip-style oolong, but Master Zhang’s Anxi Qilan is a truly singular offering that expresses the unique terroir of high elevation Daping. This Qilan is grown on rocky soil to encourage deep roots that draw in sweet mountain spring water. Master Zhang adjusts his intensive fifteen hour finishing process based on the sun and humidity to preserve the deepest florals. Master Zhang has dialed in his turning and fluffing technique over forty years to offer this evocative rolled Qilan Oolong.
