CNNP is one of the biggest factory pu’er operations out there. Their reach and brand recognition gives them the power to define the pu’er tastes of a generation. If you are curious what small workshops have to react to in their work, this classic CNNP “Yellow Mark” pressing has over a decade of age to allow the aesthetic they are looking for to fully develop. Big hefty flavor, citrus notes and baked bread all dominate the palate. This comes from our pu’er mentor Wang Yanxin’s collection, sent as a counter-example to the herbaceousness of Qianjiazhai or the cooling intensity of Yiwu expressed in smaller workshop single-origin cakes, and makes for an interesting side-by-side baseline for other smaller production shu.
