Master Potter Yi Xuan heads her own officially-recognized Ceramics Research Institute, accredited by the Dehua Ceramics Development Committee as a Research and Development site for collaboration with ceramics craft university programs.
Her wood-fired kiln is based on years of research on ancient firing techniques, along with modern science and collaboration, and due to the immense amount of work to do a firing, only fires three times a year, with most space devoted to university research projects, meaning her own body of work is tiny, and mostly bought up by collectors before firing.
Master potter Lin Xi set up the Taishou Jianlou Research Institute to study Han and Song Dynasty tea culture and firing techniques. He is dedicated to reviving the lost ancient art of Jian Zhan through meticulous research, hand made glazing and clays personally excavated from Song Dynasty sites.
Unlike many studios, Lin Xi personally oversees every aspect of his work without help. As a single artist, Lin Xi makes his own glazes with natural clay and minerals from original Song Dynasty deposits in Shui Ji, throws his own cups, and fires every batch personally. His unique style is apparent in every piece he produces, because he has full control from mixing his own clay and glazing, to the final firing. His passion is winning him awards and national recognition including gold medals.

Questions on brewing?
The most important thing when brewing and tasting tea is not to worry about it. Our partners teas are all made with enough care that they can stand up to any brewing style. They’re not fussy!
Hotter water and shorter steepings bring out more aromatics in tea, while cooler water and longer steep times bring out more texture.

BUSINESS
Verdant Tea is a farmer-first tea company and community founded in 2010 after co-founders David and Lily Duckler met co-founders Weiwei Ren and Wang Huimin on a research grant to collect the folklore of tea and interview farmers about their craft. Verdant is co-owned in China by tea farmer He Qingqing, ensuring that farmers decide how much they need to be compensated for their craft and what teas they want to create and share.
For over fifteen years, Verdant Tea has been connecting with tea farmers across China with a passion for clean, regenerative agriculture and outrageously good tea. Bureaucracy and logistics make it nearly impossible for most to sell outside their own town or grow into cooperatives that benefit the wider region. We cut that red tape - establishing a channel for true small farmers to export their own tea.
