The Long Dan or Dragon’s Egg is one of the most classic and beloved of all teapot forms, particularly for the way it can show off exquisitely worked clay.
Master Potter Zhu Huan takes original deposit Hong Chen Pi clay and polishes it to a mirror through buffing and careful shaping before firing.
This careful treatment of the clay provides a backdrop of contrast for the coarse sandy grains to come through, showing off the clay’s inherent beauty even as the surface glows in the light.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Zhu Huan
Zhu Huan was born in China’s pottery capital, Yixing, in 1989.
She graduated from The Wuxi College of Art and Craft in Jiangsu, and focused from the beginning on apprenticeships with the most highly regarded masters of Yixing craft, and won a research fellowship to study under the top ranked Master Cao Yanping.
Over the course of this fellowship, Zhu Huan not only mastered ancient forms, but developed her own distinctive style, gaining praise from collectors and yixing experts.
