"Sound of the Cicada in Summer" Yixing Masterwork
"Sound of the Cicada in Summer" Yixing Masterwork
Crafted By Tang Xian Wu
This stunning and inspired piece by nationally-recognized Master Potter Tang Xianwu is in a league of its own.
Her work typically focuses on the precision and resonance of perfect facets, but here, she shows off her prowess as a sculptor to capture a fluid, organic form that seems to melt into itself, even as it captures a vibrant and joyful sense of nature.
The name of the pot - “Sound of the Cicada in Summer” - evokes the warmth of long summer days and the calming rhythmic sound of cicadas in the distance. The pot body itself references young bamboo, almost bursting forth, adorned with a small cicada ready to take flight.
Rings of color in the pot body are achieved through layered natural clay, not paint. These rings mirror the spotted quality of beautiful bamboo used for scholarly implements in a calligrapher’s studio - a nod to tea ceremony as a scholarly attainment.
Tang Xianwu has gained steady fame and accolades over the years, winning awards at every competition, so we are excited to still be able to offer her work due to a long working relationship.
The pictures speak for themselves showing off the perfect elegance of this piece, the way Tang Xianwu captures the feeling of nature in motion, in abundance.
Of course, the stunning original deposit Zi Ni clay will continue to grow even more lustrous over time.
