Crafted By Lai Xiaohong
Miao Shuo, or "Peerless Wonder" suggests life springing from stillness. The mottled indented body of the pot evokes a gourd, a gnarled piece of wood, or even warm clay itself, while the spout, and handles seem to burst forth as new growth from the old. No wonder Lai Xiahong chose this as a tribute to the wonder that it captures: the beauty of creation in the wild mirrored by the artist, life and function coming from clay.
This stunningly light and delicate pieces features bamboo that seems to burst forth from the pot body. The intentional notches in the sides and lid handle evoke a scholarly object of contemplation. Bamboo is part of the traditional Chinese scholarly motif, used in writing implements and the furniture of a writing studio. Over time, fine bamboo gets deeper and redder, just like this incredible Huang Jin Duan Ni clay will continue to grow deeper with every use.
