Textile Artist Li Shuling
Master weaver Li Shuling keeps a studio in the old town of Shangri-La in the foothills of the Tibetan Plateau. She is committed to traditional Tibetan weaving on her hand loom, using rich vibrant color, and to educating visitors on the importance of sustaining the craft.
We first met Li Shuling as student-researchers in 2008, and she gave us each a woven textile as a gift after interviewing her about the impact of tourism on traditional folk culture. We’ve been wearing her textiles as scarves for over a decade, and they have stood the test of time. Li Shuling’s high quality cotton thread and careful technique yield pieces built to last.
We are overjoyed to reconnect with our friend and represent her work. Each piece takes hours of careful weaving and planning, but the results are vivid, one-of-a-kind textiles equally at home as runners as they are as scarves in the cool weather.
Each hand-made runner is unique and one-of-a-kind. Expect variation in the weave.
