Crafted By the He Family

Pioneers and community leaders, the He Family is dedicated to making a name for their stunningly smooth, malty, rich teas cultivated in China’s coldest, northernmost growing region.

Grown using old-school organic farming techniques on the rocky foothills of Laoshan, protected by ocean mist and fed by sweet spring water.

If Mr. He had to pick one tea that best represented the terroir of Laoshan, Biluochun would be his first choice. Delicate hand-picked buds and leaves are withered in bamboo baskets, and carefully hand curled and rolled under low heat to form beautiful long twists that unfold gracefully in a glass teapot or tumbler. The fresh and delicate leaf material is the first new growth of the season. The sweetness in the leaves is allowed to build up for an incredibly rich autumn harvest. The careful hand-finishing adds more depth and complexity, while bolstering the mineral-laden texture. It may be incredibly labor-intensive, but Mr. He continues to finish this using traditional techniques year after year to show how nuanced Laoshan tea can truly be.

The He Family also recommends:

  • "In recent years, spring has fluctuated between freezing nights and warm days, forcing the He Family to leave their greenhouse covers on longer, but this year, the nights were temperate enough to remove the greenhouse covers early, letting the buds slowly form in the open ocean air. The results are spectacular, one of the first harvests in many years to line up with ideal conditions..."
